This was our first experience with a small group tour and we loved it.  We liked how hands on and interactive it was, and being able to meet and talk with the locals was awesome.
We greatly appreciated being able to choose whether or not to participate in any of the physically challenging (for some) activities without having to forego the activity all together.  It was great to be able to have as many restroom stops as we needed along our travel routes to accommodate our needs.  Our guide and driver were very flexible and thoughtful and suggested other places we could visit when we had spare time.  They also helped us find everything on our whole list of things to buy while in Hokkaido, and that took some hunting.
