A Winter to Remember: Hokkaido, February 2026

Our trip to East Hokkaido in early February was really enjoyable and unexpected. It was quite cold but not as cold as expected and the rental gear proposed by Mari was great to keep us warm throughout the trip.
We actually got to see all, except one, of the wild life that Mari mentioned we would be able to see. But Cape Kiritappu was so cold and windy that it was an experience in itself!  I even got to witness the geyser at Shiretoko-Rausu blowing out at the exact moment as timed!!
Accommodation was good and food was great, very good kaiseki dinners.
The visit to the kelp fisherman was very informative and we now understand a lot more about the industry.
Our guide, Reiko, and driver, Mizu were both very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble!. A great thank you to both of them.
Mari did a wonderful job with the itinerary
