Born in Miyagi, in northern Japan, Atsu grew up in a small mountain town surrounded by beautiful nature and wildlife until he was 18. He loved climbing trees and building snow castles growing up. Later, when he was a freshman at his university in Yamagata, he took a trip to Toronto. It was his very first time traveling abroad, and it became a major turning point in his life getting him to have the curiosity about different cultures and languages.
After exploring countries like Australia and the Netherlands, he realized his true passion: sharing the hidden beauty of Japanese culture and values that locals cherish.
What is normal to locals is incredibly unique to everyone else, but locals are simply too close to it to notice. But because Atsu was born in Miyagi, he looks at Hokkaido through a traveler’s eyes.
